Monday 10th November 2025. 14 dog Novice Stake for 14 AV Retriever at Hy Fly
Result of the Northern Golden Retriever Association Any Variety Novice stake held at Hy Fly Game Farm by kind permission of the Holden family and the invitation of the NGRA team of guns.
Our judges were John Williamson, Kim Jinks, Gary Collier and Scott Marland.
We started with a full card of 10 Labradors, 3 Golden Retrievers and 1 Flat Coated Retriever. We had several Pennine Training area members running all of whom gave a good account of themselves.
5 dogs were taken through to the 3rd round from which we found our winner. We saw some good dog work with runners and eyewipes taken, ably supplied by an excellent team of guns.

Tuesday 11th November 2025. 14 dog All-Aged Stake for 14 A/V Retrievers at Hy Fly
Result of the Northern Golden Retriever Assocation All Aged Stake for Any Variety Retriever held at Hy Fly Game farm by kind permission of the Holden Family and invitation of the NGRA team of guns.
Again we started with a full card of 12 Labradors, 1 Golden Retriever and 1 Flat Coated Retriever. The Pennine Training area was well represented with members running, shooting, judging and helping.
Our judges were again John Williamson, Kim Jinks and Gary Collier. Vicky Waterfield replaced Scott Marland who joined the shooting team.
Thankfully the heavy rain stopped as we took the field and the weather remained dry for the rest of the day but the overnight rain did little for scent which reflected in the dog work.
Result
1st winning the Wraes Trophy for the winner, the Bakestone trophy for the highest placed PTA member and the Aurea Tankard for Guns' Choice

FIELD TRIAL SCHEDULES
All NGRA Trials are held under Kennel Club Ltd Rules and Field Trial Regulations. Retrievers which have won a CC or previously qualified for Crufts through a breed class may be entered for the Show Gundog Working Certificate at any NGRA Trial. The entry fee is the same as for that trial.

NGRA RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR FIELD TRIALS (Amended 2014/15 in line with Kennel Club guidelines)
1 Dogs entered at Kennel Club Licensed Field Trials must be registered at the Kennel Club in accordance with Kennel Club
Regulations for Classification and Registration B.
2 The Association reserves the right to refuse entries.
3 Should a dog entered in a stake be unable to run, then the Owner may substitute another dog, provided that substitute has an equivalent qualification for preference in the draw and is eligible for that stake. Bitches in season are not allowed at the trials. An owner unable to run is requested to notify the FT Sec. immediately by telephone. Failure to notify will mean that the committee may impose sanctions. (NB KC Rule J6f applies to withdrawals). (Continued on page 2)
4 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. (continued below)
5 If entries or nominations exceed the number of permitted runners, the right to compete in a Trial shall be decided by ballot. Members shall receive preference in the draw for nominations in respect of their first application only. In the case of joint membership only one preference will apply. For the Open Qualifying Stake preference in the draw will be as in KC Rules J6i(1) and J6j.
6 Should circumstances so dictate the Society, in consultation with the judges, may alter arrangements as necessary. Such changes and the circumstances surrounding them will be reported to the Kennel Club.
7 No modification may be made to the schedule after publication except by permission of the Kennel Club, followed by advertisement in appropriate journals if time permits before the closing of entries.
8 Judges at a Trial are prohibited from entering a dog which is recorded in their ownership or part ownership.
9 Videography and photography will only be permitted with the express permission of the Chief Steward and the host.
10 Welfare of Dogs. An exhibitor (or competitor) whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not knowingly put their dogs’ health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. A breach of this Regulation may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars or prong collars is not permitted at any field trial licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the trial,
11. Dogs in vehicles on hot days. Your dog is vulnerable and AT RISK if left in a vehicle in high temperatures and even on days considered as slightly warm. Please take care of your dog. If your dog is found to be at risk forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused.
12. If a competitor or anyone in their household has Covid 19 related symptoms, or has tested positive for Covid 19, they must follow Government advice and should consider whether it is appropriate that they attend the event.
ENTRY DETAILS
(a) A Nomination fee of £5 is required for each application to run.. To receive preference in the draw an application for a nomination must be completed on the form provided with the schedule. The nomination fee must be submitted at the same time. As nomination fees are non-returnable one cheque may be sent to cover all nomination fees. Please send a stamped addressed envelope of suitable size for the result of the draw, or list an email address.
(b) Entry forms will be sent to all those applying for nominations. Completed entry forms must be returned to the F.T.Secretary by the closing date to ensure your position in the draw. If entry forms are not returned in time, it will be assumed that you do not wish to run or be on the reserve list. Entry forms must be completed with the correct details of dog and owner, as shown on the KC Registration, including the registration, stud book number, or ATC. To receive preference in the draw for Open or all-aged stakes the awards box must be completed. The dog entered must be eligible and properly qualified for the stake entered, otherwise it will go to the bottom of the running order. If you desire confirmation that your entry has been received please telephone or email the F.T.Secretary.
(d) Members’ Entry Fees: 1 day stakes = £75. 2 day = £100. Non-members £25 extra. All cheques payable to NGRA. An Entry Fee is required for each entry. Please note a separate cheque is required for each entry. Only cheques for entries successful in the draw, or those subsequently accepting a run, will be cashed. Other cheques will be destroyed. All forms and fees should be returned to the FT Sec.
(e) Prizes and Trophies will be listed on the card for each stake. Trophies are restricted to members, who may hold them until the equivalent stake next season. Last year’s winners of perpetual trophies must ensure they are returned in good condition to the F.T.Sec or to a member of the NGRA FT Committee in good time.
(f) If a stake is cancelled all the entry fee will be refunded. Nomination fees are not refundable.
(g) The NGRA Health and Safety Policy previously circulated remains in force. A copy may be viewed at each trial and is displayed on the website.
(h) The Association cannot accept liability for any claim arising from or relating to the running of the trials. Owners should be cognisant of KC FT Rules &; Regulations. Dogs must be experienced on game and free of eliminating faults. The entry form includes a declaration confirming the above, and the freedom of the dog from contact with diseases. Skinners generously sponsor our trials with prizes of Skinners dog food. We also thank our hosts and the Guns, who support us. Draws. Where possible draws are at NGRA meetings, trials or GWTs and members are welcome to observe. In special circumstances they may be at the home of the FT Secretary. Directions are either printed in the schedule or will be sent with the draw, together with Accommodation suggestions.

Golden Retriever Working Tests
Sunday 22nd June 2025
We are indebted to Mrs. Lesley Morgan for allowing us to hold our breed-only working tests at Roanlodge Gundog Training Centre near Leek at very short notice, after we lost the use of our usual venue. The ground provided space and variety for us to challenge the dogs.
As usual, we held tests for Puppies, NDNH, Novice, Open and Veteran dogs, with a nice entry for our judges. Mr. S. Crookes took the puppies and did some technical static tests and a water retrieve.
For the other classes, Miss S. Kitson and Mr. A. Sweeney put the dogs and handlers through their paces on a walked-up test in the reeds.
Mrs. S. Rogers presided over a water retrieve for the novices and NDNH, then a mark and blind using the pens for the open and veteran dogs. Mrs. K. Rogers-Davison made use of the old rabbit pen to do a mark into the small pen and a blind near the water. These two judges also scored the open and novice dogs on a long water retrieve to finish.
We had a range of weather during the day, starting off dry, then showers of driving rain, strong winds and some sunshine. The temperatures were much cooler than we have seen recently!
Thank you to our judges and helpers for giving up your day to allow these tests to run. We are very grateful to you all.
